Indian film
I did a good deed today by giving blood. It's always strange to think that your blood will be going into another human being, but it feels good to know that it's going to be used and will help someone out. I've considered going to donate plasma, but I did research and it sounds 1984' esque to me. You get paid to donate it,which sounds like a great deal to get paid just to get stuck with a needle, but there's the moral dilema. Most of those centers are owned by large drug companies who only want a quick buck. Also, if you are compensated for blood or plasma, it will not be used on a patient, as they feel it isn't as safe as someone who donated because they simply wanted to. Most of it goes to cosmetic companies, which isn't terrible, but it isn't something that I wish to support. The allure of the money is tempting, but I have to stand by what I believe in. The volunteer search is going well. I found a place that's very close to where I live and it's right up my alley. It's a Reader Radio Service, meaning that I would be recording books on tape and reading news articles so that people who can't read or are blind can listen to them and get the information. With my speech background, I think I'm well qualified, so we will see how the interview goes. Julia and I hung out the other day, which was cool. She lives downtown, and I've never really been down there, but I felt so cool and artsy walking about downtown. I just had fun with her and she's very smart and funny, and we hit it off really well. I hope that we see each other again and become good friends. She gave me a great movie to watch called "Water." It's about India in 1939, around the same time that Ghandi rose to fame. A seven year old girl is widowed, and in India at that time, widows were shunned by society, so she has to go live with all the other widows in the city. She meets all sorts of people there, and it's interesting to see how people are treated in other societies, and it was very moving, and one of my new favorite films. -N-
